Whether you're adopting domestically or internationally, what you need to know
Considering adoption? For your child's well-being now and in the future, find out as much as you can about her origins. Going forward, you'll want to keep an eye out for any health or development challenges. Whether you're adopting domestically or internationally, here's what you need to know:
Before you bring her home
The best time to gather your child's medical history is during the adoption process. It's easier to do this if you're adopting in the U.S., but a growing number of countries, such as Korea and Guatemala, now provide extensive information. Ask about:
• Her birth mother's health, including any physical illness, chronic conditions, history of depression, or alcoholism.
• How the child compares with other kids her age. Does she eat or sleep less, or cry more? Has she been sick?
• Locating her medical records, often scattered among hospi-tals, orphanages, and foster homes. You may need to make quite a few calls to get them all.
The first few months
Aim for an initial checkup within two weeks of bringing her home (even if she's had a medical exam in a foreign country). Of course, if she's sick see a pediatrician right away; about half of adoptees have common illnesses like ear infections that need immediate treatment. She'll need a follow-up four to six weeks after her first visit.
During these early appointments, your child's vision and hearing will be checked. If she's under 4 months, expect the standard newborn screenings. Internationally adopted children will be vaccinated — whether or not they've already gotten shots abroad. The doctor will also screen for:
• Nutritional risks like anemia
• Lead poisoning
• Genetic abnormalities (an African-American baby, for instance, will be tested for sickle-cell anemia)
• Infectious diseases, depending on the birth mother's history and country of origin
In the future
It's not uncommon for newly adopted kids to start off behind in growth and development — to crawl or walk a little later than average, for example. This might be due to a lack of early stimulation, a nutritional deficiency, or, more rarely, exposure to alcohol or drugs. That's why your pediatrician will pay close attention to your child's growth pattern and milestones, especially during her first years. Fortunately, with good food, medical care, and love, most adoptees with delays catch up in a few months or a year.
"Does my child need a special doctor?"
Probably not. Just look for a pediatrician who communicates well and is willing to devote time to your family's needs. However, if your child has been seriously ill, or experienced abuse or emotional trauma, it's a good idea to seek out a doctor who has treated adopted kids with these issues.
This is Ella my godchild at the left side together with my daughter Kyla. Ella is 1 year and 4 months. She is very active. She loves to dance likewise my daughter. My daughter loves her. They sometimes play because Ella is young and she is starting to walk for herself. She looks like her Aunt Sheila which is now in Singapore. Which foods are rich in vitamin C?
source: www.kidshealth.org
* I give Fern-C for my daughter Kyla. It is Vitamin C. Vitamin C helps your body resist infection. It makes you a little harder to become infected with illnesses. *Weaning is the time when parents begin to gradually introduce foods other than breast milk or infant formula to their baby's diet. Specially prepared solid foods may be introduced gradually between 4 and 6 months of age.
Cereal-based foods are usually the first weaning foods offered to the infant. Other foods, including strained or mashed fruits, vegetables, meats, and fish, are later added to the weaning diet.
The introduction of weaning foods should not signal the elimination of milk from baby's diet. In fact, breast milk, infant formula, or a follow-on formula designed specifically to meet the nutritional needs of older babies should remain the primary source of nourishment throughout the first year of life.
Weaning is an important stage in your baby's life. It requires much patience on your part, some practice on your baby's part, and a lot of learning by all.

There are lots of ways you can ease the discomfort of teething.
Of course, as well as these methods, a big cuddle can work wonders.

I found this tips on the internet. I remember when my daughter experience teething she cannot eat because of the pain. She had a fever at 37 degrees celcius. I let her took a medicine. I gave her a paracetamol. I'm so worried because she had no appetite at that time.It is estimated that 20-30% of the children suffer from common sleep problems in the first 3 years of life.
A non-prevalent event but a very prevalent concern of parents during the first year of the baby's life is the Sudden Infant Death Syndrome which relates to the occurrence of infant death during sleep without any explainable cause.
Source: Sleeping
* My daughter experience night wakings during night because sometimes she wakes up because she knows her father arrives at home. But she sleep in the afternoon for 2-3 hours a day. She loves to sleep. She sometimes sleep early 8pm at night depending on her if she is tired on that day. *My child sleeps at the jeepney when we are on the way to SM. She sleeps also in the taxi when we are on our way home. Why do children sleep when they travel?
Obviously, we also sleep sometimes when we are in the bus or in the car when we travel in distance places. I remember when I was child I do sleep in the jeepney too..LOL!!! may pinagmanahan pala si Kyla.
I'm so tired holding her head because she sleeps in the jeepney but when she saw the shopping mall. She hurriedly opens her eyes wide. She is amazing!
My child is so smart. I told that we will go to the shopping malls today. It's only a joke! But then she says we will go to the mall Mama. I said I have no money. I will ask Papa give us money. We laugh when she really ask her father a money.
We went to SM. We will a rubber shoes for her. We found
We went upstairs and accidentally saw the BARBIE watch. She likes it! in short we buy it. Oh! My golly! I have no money. It's okay because I spend it for my loving daughter Kyla.

Santa Claus, also known as Saint Nicholas, Father Christmas, Kris Kringle, or simply "Santa", is a historical, legendary and mythical figure who, in Western cultures, is described as bringing gifts on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day[1], or on his feast day, December 6.[2] The legend may have its basis in hagiographical tales concerning the historical figure of Saint Nicholas.
The modern depiction of Santa Claus as a fat, jolly man (or elf) wearing a red coat and trousers with white cuffs and collar, and black leather belt and boots, became popular in the United States in the 19th century due to the significant influence of caricaturist and political cartoonist Thomas Nast.[3] This image has been maintained and reinforced through song, radio, television, and films. In the United Kingdom and Europe, his depiction is often identical to the American Santa, but he is commonly called Father Christmas.
* I don't believe in Santa Claus. It's clearly a myth. It's not true! Only Jesus is coming in our world to save the lost. *
Dengue fever usually starts suddenly with a high fever, rash, severe headache, pain behind the eyes, and muscle and joint pain. The severity of the joint pain has given dengue the name "breakbone fever." Nausea, vomiting, and loss of appetite are common. A rash usually appears 3 to 4 days after the start of the fever. The illness can last up to 10 days, but complete recovery can take as long as a month. Older children and adults are usually sicker than young children.
Most dengue infections result in relatively mild illness, but some can progress to dengue hemorrhagic fever. With dengue hemorrhagic fever, the blood vessels start to leak
and cause bleeding from the nose, mouth, and gums. Bruising can be a sign of bleeding inside the body. Without prompt treatment, the blood vessels can collapse, causing shock (dengue shock syndrome). Dengue hemorrhagic fever is fatal in about 5 percent of cases, mostly among children and young adults.
Yesterday, I and my friend Lani went to NCCC mall. She said that we will go to GUESS because they are on sale. I was amaze when I see those GUESS clothing for kids because they are up to 70% discount. I hurriedly find a skirt for my daughter and t-shirt. The original price of her skirt was P1298 and now it's only P399..Sobrang bagsak presyo sila diba? And the original price of her t-shirt was P598, now it's only P299. I grab it! minsan lang sila nagasale.
After that we ate at KFC because we are hungry finding clothes at GUESS. We decided to go to SM and then we are not satisfied with what we bought. Again, we went to GUESS for kids and find some clothing for our kids. I bought a pink semi pants with flowers. It's so nice! I let my daughter wear it in our reunion this coming January 1, 2008. I'm so happy yesterday I bought a branded clothings for my daughter and it's originally GUESS..Yahoo!!!
WHY DO MY KIDS FIGHT
Many different things can cause siblings to fight. Most brothers and sisters experience some degree of jealousy or competition, and this can flare into squabbles and bickering. But other factors also might influence how often kids fight and how severe the fighting gets. These include:
This was taken last Sunday before going to church. My hubby let her pose and she posed like this! She is like a lady. I like her attire, it suits her. If you let her smile in the camera she will never refuse it. She really smiles and poses. She feels she is a model in a casual wear..hehe..
To prevent injury, Boys Town Orthopeadics and the AAOS recommends:

Barbie dolls are still a favorite with all little girls. She comes with a large family including her boyfriend Ben and lots of accessories, such as different costumes, shoes, closet, kitchen set and many other things. All little girls love to have as many of them as they can get their hands on.

I like this Barbie Bag for my daughter. I will but this one when she goes to school maybe 2 years from. I like the design and the color of this bag. The color is feminine that suits my daughter. She likes pink color.

I want to buy a BARBIE shoes for my daughter looks like this. She likes Barbie too. Barbie has a huge unique design to choose from. I will this kind of design at SM or any shopping malls because I want her to use it in our
After my tutor I hurriedly went to SM to buy some gifts for my student because tomorrow is our last tutor. They will have their Christmas vacation next week and so there are no classes. Their class will resume in January 7, 2008.
My brother accompanied me at SM. I saw a POOh bear bag that's cheap because it is on sale. I bought 2 bags, one for my student and the other one for my daughter. I like the bag because it is a small pack bag and very useful in school or going to malls.
I also bought my daughter a pair of hair clip with a Disney design features Cinderella and Snow White. That is her favorite cartoon character in Disney. Gosh! I spend too much for the gifts for my tutor, my daughter and godchild.
Thank God I finish buying gifts for them and so I will give it to them this coming Sunday.

This photo is taken last Sunday. We took some photo before going to church. Are we look alike?hmm..she is pretty like me! may pinagmanahan talaga noh?hehe..She likes to smile and pose when you want to take a photo of her. She is our model..sanay kasi siya sa Papa niya nung maliit pa siya kinukunan na siya ng pic.
Symptoms appear when the rabies virus reaches the brain or spinal cord, usually 30 to 50 days after the person is bitten. However, this interval can vary from 10 days to more than a year. The closer the bite to the brain, the more quickly symptoms appear.
Rabies commonly begins with a short period of depression, restlessness, a general feeling of illness (malaise), and a fever. However, in 20% of people, rabies begins with paralysis in the lower legs that moves up through the body. Restlessness increases, leading to uncontrollable excitement, and saliva production greatly increases. Spasms of the muscles in the throat and voice box occur because rabies affects the area in the brain that controls swallowing and breathing. The spasms can be excruciatingly painful. A slight breeze or an attempt to drink water can trigger the spasms. Thus, a person with rabies cannot drink. For this reason, the disease is sometimes called hydrophobia (fear of water).
As the disease spreads through the brain, the person becomes more and more confused and very agitated. Eventually, coma and death result. The cause of death can be blockage of airways, seizures, exhaustion, or widespread paralysis.

It was the day she was born. It was March 20, 2005. It was taken in the hospital. This is her first yawn.

My baby Kyla was 3 months old with a big cheek. She is a chubby baby.

She is one year old here. As she grows her beauty is changing into a prettier one like me..hehe..may pinagmanahan. :)

This is her newest photo. She is turning 3 years old this coming year 2008. She is very talkative and smart. I'm proud of her. :)

Look at this picture. It's like my daughter Kyla because she loves animals. We have pet dogs and cats in our house. She doesn’t want us to scold our pets. She doesn’t want us to hurt them because she pity on them. But I never let her hold the tail of our cats because they will be hurt will possibly bite her. She will just talk to them and sometimes she will give them food.
* It's Barney. My daughter was crazy about them. She always requested her father to see Barney on the PC. She has small Barney toy that once you press it. Barney will sing his song. I and my hubby want to buy her a big stuff toy of Barney someday as her collection. *
Polio is an illness that can lead to paralysis of your arms and or legs and can lead to death. Although eradicated in the United States, the virus that causes polio still exists in other parts of the world. There are two types of polio vaccine, an oral form (Sabin Vaccine) that will no longer be used in the United States after Jan. 1, 2000, and an inactivated injectable form (Salk Vaccine) that will be used instead. Your child will receive three doses of the vaccine by the time they are 18 months old and a booster when he is four to six years old.
Children who have had a life-threatening allergic reaction the antibiotics neomycin, streptomycin or polymyxin B or to a previous dose of IPV vaccine should not receive this vaccine.
Children who are immunosuppressed or around other people who are immunosuppressed (receiving chemotherapy or long-term steroids or has HIV) should not receive the OPV vaccine.
A serious problem that can occur after receiving the oral polio vaccine is that it can cause you to have vaccine associated paralytic polio (VAPP). This is however very rare and only occurs in 1 out of every 2.4 million children who receive the vaccine.
Mild problems and side effects that can occur after receiving the IPV vaccine include mild soreness where the shot is given. It is safer for immunizing people with immune system problems or their close contacts and can not cause polio.

* Our babies must have this vaccine because if not it can lead to paralysis. It's hurtful to us parents that our child paralyzed. It can possibly lead to death. If we love our child we must have this vaccine in the nearest Health Center in your place. It is best for your babies to avoid paralysis. *
True food allergies are not as common as most people believe and only affect about 2% of children, although they are more common in younger children (affecting about 5-8% of younger children). And fortunately, most younger children will outgrow these food allergies by the time they are three years old.
Symptoms of a food allergy can include wheezing and difficulty breathing, itchy skin rashes, including hives, vomiting, diarrhea, nausea, abdominal pain and swelling around his mouth and in his throat. These symptoms usually develop fairly quickly after your child ingests the food he is allergic to, often within minutes to hours. Nasal symptoms by themselves, such as congestion or a runny nose, are usually not caused by food allergies.

* All of us can be allergy to some foods. We must be careful in eating such food. But we must be aware if toddlers get food allergies because it's very dangerous to them. In study shows it can cause death if not treated immediately. *

As I have promised to all of you. I will post photos during my daughter's performance last December 9, Sunday. So sad, I have no video camera that time.
She's in the right side..yung pinakamaliit na bata..hehe..
That's my girl! (nasa right side nasa pinakahuli)If an infant is partially breastfed or not at all, a cow’s milk-based, iron-fortified formula is recommended until 9 to 12 months of age. Pasteurized whole cow’s milk may be started at nine months. Partly skimmed milk (1% or 2%) is not routinely recommended and skim milk is inappropriate for the first 2 years. Soy (except soy infant formula), rice or other vegetarian beverages are not recommended in the first two years.
Homemade formula made with canned evaporated milk is NOT recommended. It is low in iron and essential fatty acids and delivers a high renal solute load. However, if its use is necessary for financial reasons, use whole milk varieties, provide an iron source and mix according to directions given in the document.

* My daughter Kyla is a breastfeeding child. She is turning 3 years old next year in March but still she wants me to breastfed her. But I mixed breastfeeding and formula so that I can go to downtown to pay our bills. She oftentimes drinks formula just when I am not around. But if I am at home she rather drinks my milk. *

* This is a helpful chart in feeding our babies from 10-12 months. In this age we must start introducing solid foods to them so that they will be start eating fruits and vegetables. They will still drink milk in this age because it is best for their health. I've done of this task when my daughter was 10 months until she reach 1 year old. And now she eats very well. *
Toddlers are exploring. They are curious of everything around her. They want to try everything so that they will know the cause and effect they have done. As parents we must always look and watch for our child to avoid some accidents.
Let's watch this..

My daughter Kyla wants to have a new doll this Christmas. While browsing on the internet, I found this cute doll. Dolls are expensive depending on the brand and the size too. I want to buy a doll for her as her collection. I hope I can find one look like this on shopping malls.
Cheese sticks are always fun for toddlers but you have to make sure that your toddler does not try to put too much of the cheese stick in his mouth at one time. Cheese cubes can add some protein and calcium to any meal or snack. Cheese can also be cut into quarter inch slices and cut with a cookie cutter just as deli meat can be to create fun shapes for your toddler to enjoy.
Meal time does not have to be a struggle. There are many healthy finger food options that your toddler can enjoy during meal times and as healthy snacks. Most of the foods that you serve the rest of the family can be modified slightly to make them more toddler-friendly. Help your toddler develop a lifelong habit of healthy eating by providing them with a variety of nutritious foods every day.

* My daughter Kyla likes to eat cheese rather than sweet goodies. She sometimes put it in the bread. I know it is nutritious because it has milk ingredients. But it should not be too much for that because it is salty. I just want her to taste everything so that she can eat all kinds of food except junk foods. *

I saw this computer toy in the internet that can be for my daughter Kyla. I want her to learn how to use the computer in an early age. I want her to go to school early. Maybe if she is 4 years old. She can go to school. She sometimes tells me that I will tutor her. Of course! I'll be her private tutor. She is my child and I want her to be excellent in her academic performance.
Indeed, our Church Anniversary was finished. I'm so proud of my daughter for her great performance. She is only 2 years but she memorize their songs and even act for it. She can also memorize the some verse in the Bible like John 3:16. It was such a long verse. Some of her classmate like her age are shy and will never go on stage.
Later, I'll post some pic of her during her performance..LOL!!!
Last Sunday my child attended her Sunday school classes. There is a birthday give away because one of their schoolmate named Jendi celebrated her birthday. She share some birthday packs that has biscuits, candies, juice and etc. inside. One of her classmate looked at the toy; it's a plastic egg with candies inside. It is made of

My daughter Kyla loves to watch Goin' Bulilit in ABS-CBN. I saw this episode this month. Sharlene plays as Korina K. Kanchez. She imitates Korina Sanchez of "Balitang K". She is really a smart and talented child.
She interviewed the popular love team in Philippine showbiz, John Lloyd Cruz and Bea Alonzo. They promote their newest movie "One More Chance".

One is responsiveness, or how much independence you’re willing to grant. The other, for lack of a better word, is demandingness, how much strict obedience you require. How much obedience parents demand, how much freedom they grant, and how these two behaviors mesh go a long way toward defining the parents’ style.
These parenting styles fall into a generally accepted four broad categories. Though different researchers give different names to them, the styles usually are said to be: Authoritarian, Authoritative, Permissive, and Uninvolved.

* I discipline my child even if she is 3 years old. If she has done mistakes I let her understand why I scolded her. I want her to know what she is doing whether it is right or wrong. And after that I will hug her and will tell her that she will not do that again because it's bad. They can understand as long as you speak slowly to them. *
