Dengue Fever

mosquito

What are the signs and symptoms of dengue fever and dengue hemorrhagic fever?

Dengue fever usually starts suddenly with a high fever, rash, severe headache, pain behind the eyes, and muscle and joint pain. The severity of the joint pain has given dengue the name "breakbone fever." Nausea, vomiting, and loss of appetite are common. A rash usually appears 3 to 4 days after the start of the fever. The illness can last up to 10 days, but complete recovery can take as long as a month. Older children and adults are usually sicker than young children.

Most dengue infections result in relatively mild illness, but some can progress to dengue hemorrhagic fever. With dengue hemorrhagic fever, the blood vessels start to leak and cause bleeding from the nose, mouth, and gums. Bruising can be a sign of bleeding inside the body. Without prompt treatment, the blood vessels can collapse, causing shock (dengue shock syndrome). Dengue hemorrhagic fever is fatal in about 5 percent of cases, mostly among children and young adults.

Walang Kapalit

I miss watching "Walang Kapalit"..Claudine Barreto and Piolo Pascual had a hard time getting their own son. Poor parents..because of that crazy "Cynthia" Judy Sta. Maria who ruined their lives..I think this week is the last episode. I hope I can watch it! Let's watch it!

Vitamin C

This vitamin is important for keeping body tissues, such as gums and muscles in good shape. C is also key if you get a cut or wound because it helps you heal. This vitamin also helps your body resist infection. This means that even though you can't always avoid getting sick, vitamin C makes it a little harder for your body to become infected with an illness.

Which foods are rich in vitamin C?

Why Do Kids Have Tantrums?

Temper tantrums range from whining and crying to screaming, kicking, hitting, and breath holding. They're equally common in boys and girls and usually occur from age 1 to age 3. Kids' temperaments vary dramatically — so some kids may experience regular tantrums, whereas others have them rarely.

Even the most good-natured toddler has an occasional temper tantrum. They're a normal part of development and don't have to be seen as something negative. Unlike adults, children don't have the same inhibitions or control.

Imagine how it feels when you're determined to program your DVD player and aren't able to do it, no matter how hard you try, because you can't understand how. It's pretty frustrating — do you swear, throw the manual, walk away, and slam the door on your way out? That's the adult version of a tantrum. Toddlers are also trying to master their world and when they aren't able to accomplish a task, they often use one of the only tools at their disposal for venting frustration — a tantrum.

Several basic causes of tantrums are familiar to parents everywhere: The child is seeking attention or is tired, hungry, or uncomfortable. In addition, tantrums are often the result of kids' frustration with the world — they can't get something (for example, an object or a parent) to do what they want. Frustration is an unavoidable part of their lives as they learn how people, objects, and their own bodies work.

Tantrums are common during the second year of life, a time when children are acquiring language. Toddlers generally understand more than they can express. Imagine not being able to communicate your needs to someone — a frustrating experience that may precipitate a tantrum. As language skills improve, tantrums tend to decrease.

Another task toddlers are faced with is an increasing need for autonomy. A child wants a sense of independence and control over the environment — more than the toddler may be capable of handling. This creates the perfect condition for power struggles as the child thinks "I can do it myself" or "I want it, give it to me." When kids discover that they can't do it and can't have everything they want, the stage is set for a tantrum.

Tips For Cold, Cough, or Flu Prevention

Infections can be avoided both by decreasing the exposure to germs and by boosting your child’s immunity. Here are 6 powerful ways to decrease germ exposure:

  • Switching Daycares: Using a daycare of 6 or fewer children dramatically decreases the germ exposure (and illness), especially in the winter months. Unfortunately, this is not the most practical option.

  • The Not-So-Secret Weapon: We all know that hand washing is a good idea, but when a daycare actually does wash children’s and provider’s hands at key moments, the results are spectacular. Key moments? The most important times are after nose wiping, after diapering or toileting, before meals, and before food preparation. Before a child picks his or her nose would be nice but is not quite practical :^).

  • Instant Hand Sanitizers: Talk about convenient! A little dab will kill 99.99% of germ without any water or towels. It uses alcohols to destroy germs physically. It is an antiseptic, not an antibiotic, so resistance can't develop. And here's the cool part--it's fun. Many kids think it's a treat to get to use it! We asked our son’s daycare to try it, and they began washing all those times they knew they should.

  • Paper Towels: (Instead of shared cloth towels.)

  • Sleeping Mats: Washing of sleeping mats less than once a week results in more infections.

  • Air Filters: HEPA filters can remove 99.97%+ of the pollen, dust, animal dander, even bacteria from the air. Plants can also be excellent air purifiers (if no one is allergic).

My Wonder Baby!

Mickyla Angeline is my wonder baby girl! She is a wonderful gift from God. She is our strenght when we are sometimes weak of all the trials in this world because she makes us smile. She is a loving and kind child. She knows when to say "Sorry" and "Thank You". She knows how to pray. And the sweetest words she says to us is " I love you Mama and Papa ". She loves us that is why we love her so much eventhough she is sometimes naughty but still she makes our day complete and happy with her. I always thank God for His precious gift to us our baby girl Kyla..the wonder baby.
